Many thanks to John Orchard and Rob Penn for a really interesting discussion about promoting the use of homegrown timber from sustainable productive woodlands to encourage a thriving wood culture. Catch up with the webinar and find out more about the charity Woodland Heritage, including how to become a member.
Here are few specific links provided by John in response to some of the questions:
- Formative Pruning & High Pruning guides
- Woodland to Workshop course information and waiting list sign up
- Open Woods & Workshops – an initiative that encourages woodland and workshop owners to open their special places to the public to share knowledge, enabling people to learn about the skills involved in growing trees and using wood.
As mentioned, both Forestry England and Scottish Forestry have recently released lists of timber trees most suitable for future planting, including native and non-native species.

During the webinar, Rob provided an impressive list of all the things that had been made from one Ash tree – find out more in his book The Man who Made Things out of Trees.
