smoke control areas

What do you know about smoke control areas with respect to burning wood in your woodland if it lies within a local authority that has one in force?

http://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/

The Defra website talks about what type of manufactured fuel you are allowed to burn with regard to your fireplace or wood burning stove. There is a long list of these but seems to it seems to miss out actual real logs! I can't see mention of having a fire in your garden either (read woodland for us). I guess that's because they create smoke and that's what the clean air act is there to prevent. Well I say there's no fire without smoke ;) when burning logs so presumable you're not allowed to.

Does this not apply purely to residential/industrial areas etc? I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it does (with obvious limitations.

From Defra;

Smoke control areas have been introduced in many large towns and cities

I think it applies to urban areas to restrict the burning of smoky coal in fireplaces, which historically caused smog. Never heard of it being applied to woodland, gardens or rural locations.

Remember if you've recently eaten smoky bacon flavoured crisps or Reggae Reggae barbecue sauce, you're not allowed to blow off upwind of an urban area with smoke control legislation, unless you've installed an afterburner in your kecks. I did once but got away with it by throwing an accusative glance at a passing 747. :lol:

I registered a series of agricultural waste exemptions at my plot, including:

(These last for 3 years and your details / location are publicly viewable by a map or general search if folks can be bothered).
