Say hi to the newbie

Postby Mooresey » Mon Jul 28, 2014 8:47 am

Hello all

New here today and I know nearly nothing about woodland ownership.

My partner and I live in a regular house in south derbyshire and have been wanting for years to go off grid. Own a small woodland with a house nearby thats not attached to the grid in any way and live the simple life.

We already grow our own veg as much as we can, limited space.

I wish to know all I can for future investment in a woodland and would love to start early.

Thanks
John

Hello
A few years ago we lived in a "regular house" and had a similar dream. We have now almost finished building our off-grid house in the woods. We also started knowing nothing about woodland ownership/management. SWOG has been a lot of helpto us.
We look forward to hearing how your journey goes.

Hi and welcome. I'm just past being a newbie and a lot of what I've learnt has come from here. It's a great place to start. Good luck.

Welcome Mooresey! Sounds like you're not to far from my 'woodland gaff' down near Rosliston!

Thats us ! Not entirely off grid yet, but self sufficient in heating, and living partly from crafts with a lot of the materials coming from the wood. ( Although Mrs Paws regular day job is pretty useful). Its a good feeling. Always good to chase and realise your dream, life's not a rehearsal. Starting point is live frugally, pay off any debt and mortgage, don't be flash, save towards your dream, its do-able if you're determined. Amazing the amount everyday folk waste on cr*p, then say they are unhappy with their lives. We all have choices and in the UK if you apply yourself, you can make your dreams happen, nobody else is going to present them to you on a plate.
