I'm not sure of the benefit of a bushcraft fire. It's ok if it's a one off, but it's permament then why not have something a little more comfortable. We have four "y" rods stuck into the ground for cooking and boiling a kettle that way the fire hearth doesn't drift around.

How about an alter fire like this \ http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/pdfs/fs315076.pdf \ although I remember making it out of logs piled up at right angles but the top was the same.We had one at a permenant scout camp site that lasted for years with a bit of anual maitenance.
