Badgers

All discussion on birds, bugs and animals

Postby Francis Biley » Thu May 14, 2009 2:09 pm

From my previous post you will know I have a VERY small wood, about half of which is populated by badgers, the biggest distance between entrance holes is perhaps 30m or so, maybe more. I've tried to find out what its like underground from looking at the internet, but with no luck. Does anybody know of any diagrams/vids of what a sett looks like, are there many chambers? Why so many entrances (I've not counted them but mine has perhaps 20/25)? How deep will it be? etc etc.

Hi Francis

Theres a place called Wildwood in Herne near Canterbury and if I remember correctly they have a huge Sett with glass walls and its well worth a visit. There is also a good Badgerwatch forum who are very knowledgeable they operate all over the country. sounds great. Good luck with your research.

Thank you all. Tracy - I couldnt get that link to work, any ideas?

I've done a bit more looking around, and found some useful material here, perhaps you're aware of it but just in case:

It has a nice diagram.

I also found this, which was quite nice and detailed:
