Price of Charcoal?

Food, firewood, timber, walking sticks, for sale...

Tried to get answer from the SSCG, but no luck.

Could any tell me the price of British charcoal both retail and wholesale?

I seem to remember £5 a bag at the woodfair.... I think Greyman might be able to answer this one if he wakes up...!

It is bag big. ;-) Hmm, there is a British Charcoal standard bag.... but not sure where you get them from. I think the key is not to charge by weight, other than that I am waffling....

the coppice asoc. bags are from selway packaging -01189 462333 .small 305#125#530 ,and medium 305#125#740 .

i use plain sacks from selway and glue me own label on . i use the 280#100#560 ,what am titchy .this year i've hiked me prices right up ; bout £3.50 trade (delivered) /rrp £5.00 .

tis naf all mark up for the retailer ,but they hope to sell loadsa beer n meat ofofa the back of it .

when i started , trading standards told me it was fine to sell as a bag /volume ..

,mind that bio regional lot do it by weight - hence them half-full bags of oak charcoal .

hope this helps

I brought the Coppice assoc small bags from Selway which are slightly larger than your plain bags, Carlight.

I have been weighing them to 2kg which plus a little bit more because of weights and measures. I think I will not put the weight on the bag from now on and just sale by volume.

I'll charge £5 per bag retail and £3.50 wholesale at least i'll look like I know what I'm doing ;)

Might invest in larger bags and sell them for £8

Thanks guys and gals.

Well funny this should crop up - I've just fired the kiln for the first time this season after selling my last 12 bags from last year. We use the 'Coppice association' bags from Selway and we fill them to 3Kg weight, staple the bag and then put our label on: we do not sell by weight but use it to give uniformity. We deliver in to a local Farm shop at £3.99 and they retail at £5.50, I think: we sell out a £5.00 but may put that up to £5.50 this year.

seem to be place around the south east to get the right size bags. Well that's who we've used since I spend ages trying to get the size bag I wanted at a reasonable price.

Well, we'll be off up t'wood later to crack the top on the kiln to see how much charcoal we managed in the first burn. Happy colliering to you all.

Hi Greyman

is it the larger 'Coppice association' bags that you can get 3kg from? I try getting 3kg in the smaller bags but it's a bit awkward trying to staple the bottom.

Sorry Darren - I've been away wobbling round the Isle of Man on me VFR for the last week so only just got round to seeing your post! Well it is the Coppice Assoc bags we use and depending on what we've put in the kiln it fills the bag about 2/3 full. When I fold the bag I do do three turns and then staple. I'd say we could probaly get .5 to 1 Kg more in the bag but it would make it a bit tight!

Just been bagging up this Sunday - chose the hottest day so far and my kiln area is in direct sun light with trees all round to stop any slight breeze! Phew - Hot, Sitcky and Very Black apart from where the face mask was.
