I'm not sure if this is a silly question but has anyone had truffles from their wood or ever heard of anyone? I have ancient coppiced oak which is what I think they like and am in the Kent area. I know if anyone did have truffles then I would assume you would need the services of a trained dog or pig to retrieve them. I would not be adverse to a "no find no fee" type arrangement and bristle with excitement at the idea. I bet I've overlooked something very obvious buy hey if you don't ask you don't know !

Needs to be on chalk, or calcareous soil.

Have heard that some people can find them without a dog or pig.

You also see them,on occasions, being eaten by a pig or indeed a dog in west London.

I remember the truffles of the Sahara.

30 years I was working on rigs on the 2,000ft Hamada plateau south of Tripoli. About 1981 was an exceptionally wet winter & the usually dry wadis became rivers. After the floods passed & it all dried up the scrub of bushes flowered & the ground around them cracked. The truck drivers delivering equipment went out & dug up sackfulls of white truffles around the bushes. Apparently highly sought after, but did not try any myself.
