Upgrading forum

Anything to do with SWOG Membership, meetings and find people with skills to offer

Postby tracy » Fri Jun 19, 2009 7:50 pm

I have had some requests lately to add the facility to upload photos - I will ask the technical man about this. One option is to upgrade the forum to a phpb, like the forum on the coppice.co.uk site.

Any thoughts on this?

I had initially thought it would be good to have this forum very straightforward to use so that people who do not normally use them can easily find their way around....

what do you think? Upgade and have more options or keep it simple?

Thanks!

Tracy

I've downloaded Picasa and trying to work out how tyo post my pictures to that so we can just put a link in the posting we make. If anyone knows how to make this process easy we might not need to change the site.

Tracy,

I use eUKhost (they're in Durham) to provide web space for my forum, and vbulletin as the actual forum software. It works really well, and easy to set up.

There's a small cost but it's well worth it for the numerous admin features. Free usually means not as well featured.

If you want to see it in action email me for the forum address.

Yes , I think it would be nice to be able to put photos directly into posts, is the correct term "hot linking"?

Also Smileys can save misunderstandings when something is said in a light hearted manner.

What we really need is more people to post, especially to share their photos and videos.

Is anything happening with this? I'm finding the forum's features limiting!

Is it about stumping up funding?

No, not about funding - sorry James, I was interested in phpb stuff, but I can't keep up with the foul spam on the coppice site one , so I had to disable that board. Doesn't make me want to get it on here! This one gets no spam.

I will keep looking into it and see if I can find someone who knows more to upgrade us without the spammers.

there are lots of forums using phpb. The british bee keepers asc use it, maybe they could help keep the spammers out?
