Making benches

Events, meetings and courses

Postby tracy » Tue May 12, 2009 9:50 am

John Waller would be happy to do a day with us on making benches, splitting logs, shingles .. (other ideas welcome). We would split the cost between us.

Anyone interested in the Kent/ Sussex area? We would need a woodland to meet in too...!

Id be very Interested in that, what would be the requirements of the wood? I can park up to 20 cars but they would have to be in a line along the track and have to leave in reverse order! its 5 miles south of Canterbury. Either way count me in please

Tracy, I will consider it. I can split wood with wedge or froe, know the joints and some traditional designs of bench. I should probably be concentrating on design.

What other items does John teach?

Have a look at his website Richard, (in my first post) he does a lot of stuff! I am sure we can cater for all kinds of needs. And thanks Jilly, once we see who is interested we can look for a wood in the middle of us...!

Very nice benches from John Waller, sort of glad that the ones I am making look different.

How about stick furniture?

Living chairs! I saw in one of my rustic furniture books, but I think thats' more of a long term project for a day course (fifteen years or so!)

Happy to host if it's central to everyone, we're just outside Uckfield.

Cheers

Rich and Penny

Hey Tracy, how about a benchmaking competition ?

Well I admit that I have a small headstart, but some of you may well be better at woodbutchery than me.

Anyway the Woodfair is months away.

In fact, why not have a competition for anything made from your own woods !

You must be a mind reader! That is one of my thoughts - something like

Most interesting thing made of wood. ...

Don't forget to all be making stuff to sell at the woodfair too!
