I anybody here have experience In using a handwinch only managed to get landrover stuck & thought it would be a good idea for moving stuck trees as well see a 4 ton winch on ebay for £36 looks quite good,

I have had one for about 30 years, used to use it for lifting engines out of my cars from the roof beam overhead. As a cheap bit of kit they are ok, you can pick them up for about £20 now (which is about what I paid for mine 30 years ago!). They are OK on pulling or raising but rubbish on lowering as you have to manually move the catch on each stroke.
You would need a strop to pull a Landrover out as the pull is only about 3ft on 2:1 or 6ft on 1:1.
I wouldn't use one for lifting now as I like to think I have more sense than when I was a teenager but for pulling they suffice.
I now have a Tirfor winch which is a lot better piece of kit, readily available second hand and designed for lifting, not just pulling. It comes with 20m of steel cable and by flicking a lever will lower a load as easily as it lifted it.

There's a distinct difference between small hand winches designed for pulling vehicles horizontally on wheels and proper wire rope winches designed for pulling hung up or felled trees. You could push a 4 ton vehicle by hand along a road on your own, could you move a 4 ton tree? - Of course not, its totally different applications. The former will cost £30 for a 2500 kg 'pull' and isnt for pulling trees, it would snap. A proper 3 or 4 Ton wire rope winch will use a 16mm (2/3rd inch) massive heavy wire rope and could actually lift the tree. A decent one will set you back £300-£600, and on top of that you need slings and snatch blocks, you don't pull in a direct line with the tree. All winching with a 3 or 4 ton load is something that's potentially as hazardous as a chainsaw. If something snaps and flies back at you with that tension, you could be decapitated or cut in half by the wire, so its not something to be attempted without fully researching all the right kit and techniques. 12V vehicle winches are another option for fitting on the back of a large pickup or tractor. here's one being used on a stuck tree, so you can see it'll do that job, of course it'll probably pull a stuck landie, as long as you have a good solid tree nearby

you'll notice it has a longer handle, makes it much easier to use, although I suppose you could make similar for the cheaper,smaller winch

that first film is a professional tree surgeon friend of ours, maybe no one told him his one would snap, also pulling in a straight line

Thats a twig, if he'd had his weetabix he could have pulled it out by hand. Reckon it weighs about 200kg max.
