Feb 08 What Malcolm has been doing…. By Tracy

Malcolm has been building a small lodge house.

It is built into a bank so stands on stilts 4X4 concreted into the ground and then a level platform 16 foot square constructed on this using 8X2 at 24 inch centres covered over with 3/4 inch ply.

The roof stucture is made with 8X2 again at 48 inch centres at 60 degrees so that the whole thing is an equalateral triangle, this is overclad with sarking and “onudine” corrugated felt laid on 2X1 battons.

This triangular shape is large enough to have a mezanine floor so that there is a bedroom area at high level hence the window above the door is for the bedroom.

The front and back are infilled with  3X2 framing covered with feather edge boards and windows and doors that were spare after our house renovation. There is a 3 foot wide veranda on the front laid with decking. The plan is to eventually have it nicely kitted out and have a small 12 volt generator running from the nearby stream.
