Feb 19 Dead hedging and overstood chestnut By Tracy

Richard has been using dead hedging to deter the tree thieves who were in his woodland.  He says it seems to be working.

It also makes a great habitat for wildlife!

He has also been felling some very large chestnut.

Richard says: I know that they should be cut as low as possible, but these stumps are about four foot wide & three foot tall & my little Stihl MS260 with a 15 in bar seems like a toy when faced with them. The stems were up to 30 years old, 15 in & more in diameter & leaned out at crazy angles.
