This new course in East Sussex, is aimed at those new to woodland management – those who have recently bought or started to manage a wood, those thinking of owning or managing woods and those involved in community woodlands. The course will provide you with knowledge and skills to help you identify what you have in your woodland and how you would like to manage it.

My wood borders farmland and by the boundary, the bright yellow flowers of a ragwort bloom. Ragwort,-fatal to livestock-, is one of the five injurious weeds listed in the Weeds Act 1959.

The Forestry commission are also holding a woodfuel workshop at the woodfair in Sept. Come and find out more about needs, products, methods, tools and more!

‘Entering the woodfuel market: opportunities and barriers to woodfuel use’ – a seminar run by Forest Research and RRSP, Woodland Enterprise Centre, Flimwell, East Sussex, 1 October. One of the discussions in the afternoon is specifically about the needs for landowners wishing to be involved in woodfuel production. I will be there and would appreciate some support from other small wood owners- a good time to get our voices heard – and a free lunch!

The Forestry Commission sent us the wood fuel newsletter, which has interesting information on … wood fuel!

Established in 1998 Yorwoods is a not-for-profit public and private sector-backed initiative that provides support services to the forestry industry in Yorkshire. It has run a variety of projects throughout the region, helping forestry and timber businesses to write or implement management and business plans, advising rural businesses about accessing funding and providing training opportunities to woodland owners, managers and forestry contractors.

Greyman has made a trolley for carting wood around in the wood. Looks brilliant! He says it is a little heavy though.

I have built a chainsaw rig out of my own timber which holds a stack of logs 1 metre high, off the ground.

My September course is now fully subscribed. I still have a few places available on my course on 24th-25th October and I am now taking bookings for my course on 14th-15th November.
