Peter Buckley has worked with Natural England to put together a report called:
‘The ecological impact of sweet chestnut coppice silviculture in former ancient, broadleaved woodland sites in South East England.’
A fascinating report, just does what it says on the tin!

There are some changes to the woodland grants in the SE, there is still time to claim this year. The attached flyer will tell you more and visit the website for more details. If you have applied for grants, pleaseĀ use the forum to let us know what you applied for and how you got on.

The SEWN is a great read. This edition has information on butterflies, plantations on ancient woodland sites (PAWS), new grant schemes, bluebells, dead wood and red squirrels.

Spring is finally coming! Sean and Sarah have seen lots of butterflies and we are all beginning to see wood anemone and buds on trees. Send me your pictures of your wood this Spring!

Courses at the Woodland Skills Centre, Bodfari, Denbigh
It is over a year since we bought our chestnut coppice in East Sussex. We have just completed the registration of ourselves and the wood with the Rural Payments Agency. So it was a good time for courses on Small Woodland Management and Practical Woodland Tasks.

Tim Saunders at Rother Forestry has a fabulous new trailer and tractor, with a crane and is available for hire!
